Psychotherapy for Teens and Adults
in San Francisco
Welcome.
I believe therapy offers one of the most unique and powerful human relationships. It is also a highly effective way to care for yourself and those you love.
My website will tell you a bit about me and my practice. However, the best way to feel if I'm a good fit for you may be us speaking.
If you're interested in support at this time in your life, I welcome you to schedule a consultation with me.
About Therapy
People seek therapy for many reasons. My clients tend to come for support during periods of heightened anxiety, life transition, or relationship challenges, as well as to address past traumas. Whatever your starting point, the choice to engage with therapy can turn challenges into opportunities for growth. Over time, the therapeutic process can result in profound changes: more self-compassion, a greater capacity for intimacy, more peace and trust, and increased ability to accept and adapt to change.
Therapy works because we are inherently relational beings. We form, grow and heal in relationships where we can be our whole selves and be met consistently with patience, curiosity, kindness, and truthfulness. Accordingly, research shows that the most important factor to effective therapy is the quality of the relationship between therapist and client. As your therapist, I will support you with keen interest, compassion, and honest reflection -- as we build trust and explore the complexities of your life.
Hi, I'm Jenn.
About Me
A few words that describe me as a therapist are warm, direct, and practical. You can anticipate sessions with me to be interactive -- I listen carefully, ask questions, offer reflections, and at times, will counsel you on ways to approach to your areas of struggle.
I hold a Master's in Counseling from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) where I trained in depth psychotherapy with emphasis on multicultural and liberatory approaches to healing. Since 2021, I've provided psychotherapy to adults, teens, and children in clinical practice, as well as in San Francisco public schools. To support my work, I engage in ongoing supervision, case consultation, training, advocacy, and my own personal psychotherapy.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent ten years working in public policy in San Francisco. I have experience in high-pressure jobs and understand the challenges of balancing work and life. I changed careers to focus on what was most meaningful in my work: service, learning, and relationships.
My work is professionally supervised by
Jane Reingold, LMFT #47226
My approach to therapy is
Psychodynamic: I believe much of what influences our feelings and behavior is unconscious. Psychodynamic therapy not only addresses immediate issues, but fosters long-term growth by working with the roots of psychological suffering.
Relational/Attachment-based: I believe many of our feelings of anxiety and alienation come from having our essential emotional connections disrupted. I support clients to explore how present dilemmas may be associated with earlier experiences in important relationships. I also work to establish and maintain a secure bond between us, in which a healing attachment experience is possible.
Contextual: I reject the idea that mental health is an individual issue. I consider how the interplay between you and your environments -- including family, community, work, culture and your/our social, economic and ecological contexts -- affects your well-being and development.
Social Justice Oriented: I am attentive to how the forces of racism, sexism and other forms of structural oppression stunt our full expression, and I work to recognize and disrupt these systems as they move through us as individuals in relationship.
Integrative: I draw from many approaches within the counseling field including Jungian psychology, object relations, family systems theory, liberation psychology, and dialectical behavioral therapy -- as well as from philosophy, art and literature, neuroscience, and wisdom traditions. I am constantly learning from interdisciplinary and multicultural perspectives on how people heal and grow.

I work with individuals from all backgrounds and identities who are experiencing emotional distress, relationship challenges, and healing from trauma. I have special affinity for individuals who struggle with people-pleasing, perfectionism and burnout as well as caregivers and folks in service and helping professions. In therapy, we'll explore the roots of your default coping strategies and to get to know more of your inner feelings and needs. I will teach you to create more self-kindness, authentic expression, nourishing relationships and ease in your life.
Todays teens face intense feelings and challenges as they navigate adolescence in our increasingly turbulent world. I work with clients 12 - 18+ struggling with identity, friendships, anxiety, apathy, and self-esteem. I offer a safe and accepting space where teens can express and explore all parts of themselves and what they experience. With my teen clients, I am open, honest, down-to-earth, sensitive and firm when called for. I love working with this age group, and I believe therapy offers a vital opportunity for adolescents to grow their relational and emotional life skills for resilience.
Children under 12 tend to primarily process emotions through play. This calls for a specialized therapeutic approach. My sessions with younger clients may include play-acting with toys, drawing, or talking over a favorite game. Children tend to feel safer opening up emotionally when they are playing, and often act out real scenarios and feelings. Play therapy can help children express and process difficulties they are experiencing in their lives, as well as develop new coping skills. While working with children, I include parent or family sessions when needed. I frequently see child therapy create more ease for the whole family.
